People from my travels

Av Hanna - 25 juli 2013 15:06

The best thing about my travels is definately all the wonderful people I've met. Up the whole east coast and here in Sydney. This entry is for those that I've had so much fun with, but have now sadly left Australia. But, I know that we will meet again soon!

Let's start with Michelle and Chloe, who always made me laugh. I met them on Fraser Island and we travelled together to Airlie Beach where they, sadly, went home to England.

I met this dude during my time in Airlie Beach. I had just split up with my travelling partner and I stayed behind in Airlie for a few weeks and hung out with him, Michelle and Chloe instead. And haha, his name is Ryan.

These two, Dani and Leah, became my new travelling buddies after our amazing adventure in the Whitsunday's. As you can see, we had heaps of fun together and we travelled up the rest of the east coast togehter, where they left for New Zealand. I met them one more time in Sydney when they came over for a quick visit before they flew back to Germany.

Pierse and his awesome gang Jasmine, Jordan and Jenny. I met them in Noosa and kept running in to them at every place I stopped at along the rest of the east coast. They popped up everywhere and made lite easier and so much fun!! Back in Sydney all the girls got Swedish tattoos.. but I'm not gonna tell you what they said. Now they're back in Ireland, England and Canada..

And now to the Swedes. Helena, Alex, Oskar, Linnea and Sandra. We had our little Swedish gang in Sydney and I spent all my time of the ship with them. We had heaps of fun togehter and they were my safety in the big city. They were there for me when I had nowhere to live and before I found the job on the boat. But they're all back in Sweden now :(

The AMAZING crew on the Southern Swan for the summer season of 2012. These guys were my family and I can honestly tell you that living and working with these people was some of the greatest days in my life so far. We worked hard, but we all accepted it and had so much fun together. Some of them are back home and others are out on new adventurers.

Stacey and Elena, two of my closest friends on the boat. Stacey worked on the boat as a photographer with her partner Reece and after we came back from the South Pacific, she was my best friend in the city. I spent most of my days off at her place and we did everything together. Elena left too early from the boats and I wish that she'd had come on the South Pacific with us. Stacey is now in New Zealand and when I'm going over in February I'm finally gonna see her again! Elena is back in Germany studying. She's got really fun plans for the future and I really hope I get to see her again soon! She's an awesome girl and a really good friend!

Emil, the best Dane in the world. He was accopanied by Simon, another Dane, and I met these two first on my second stop along the East Coast. When I came back to Sydney after my trip on the coast, Simon and Emil were working on the boats and they helped me get the job. Simon went back to Denmark after a few months but Emil stayed on for the South Pacific trip. I can't tell you how happy I was when he found out. He always made me laugh, even if I felt like crap. He put a smile on everyone's faces and our boss made his best decition ever when he offered one deckhand position to Emil. Emil bought a yukulele in the Cook Islands and on one of our watches together, we wrote a song.. Danish and Swedish combined, haha! Emil is now living in Broome, Australia, with our cook from the Pacific trip!

Double Hanna and Hannah trouble, that's what they called us. The two Hannah's. She comforted me at my sadest moments on the ship and was always there for me. We were the only deckhands that were female and we worked our asses off. Girls can to!! She's now back home, living in London.

Jimmy two hats. He got this nick name after wearing, exactly, two hats! He is a funny one. You see, he was like a big brother to me. Everytime I was not feeling well he noticed and asked me what was wrong. When I said "nothing", he asked again. He is very clever and a good listener. We were put together on most watches during the sailing trip and I couldn't have asked for a better person to spend my watches with. I miss him so much and the day we said goodbye to him at the airport I cried. Jimmy is now working on another tall ship named Pheonix and they recently sailed from England to The Netherlands.

And of course, Captain Eric. The best captain I've ever had and most likely, the best captain I will ever have. Souch a kind, thoghtful and genuine man. He was loved by all his crew, both the permanet and all our Voyage crew. I wanted to set him up with my mum! Eric is now back in New Zealand and working on a cargo ship wherehe does 3 months on, 3 months off.

Zim and Helen. Helen was the first one to go back home when we came back to Sydney. Her sister was getting married. How could you miss that? Zim stayed on with me and Joe for the refit after the Pacific season and all the way in to March, when Helen came back and they went to New Zealand together. Me, Joe and Zim were the one's in charge on the ship and it was a hard time for all of us. All our old crew had left, but we had eachother and we kept on supporting one another. We will definately see these two again when e go to New Zealand!

Last but not least, my wonderful friend Miyuki. She joined the ship two months before I decided to quit and she was my best friend on board (with french Jess of course, but she's still here). Miyuki is a really good friend and we always laugh together. We have definately the same type of humor and haning out with her was always the best! After I left the boat, she would always come over to mine and Joe's place on her days off. She is the latest one that I have said goodbye to (last week). She has gone to Uluru for 6 months. She did say before she left that she's thinking about going to New Zealand in February - the same time as me! So hopefuly it won't be to long til I see her smiling face again!

This was supposed to be a happy entry, but I can't help but feeling sad when I see all the pictures. When I think back at all our amazing times together I'm so happy that I gathered some curage and went to Australia by myself. Most of you I will see when I come back to Europe. I've planned a big Euro trip sometime in the near future. And some of you I might see sooner than expected.

Thanks to all you people who've made my trip in Australia totally amazing! I coudn't have done it without you.
